Description
Upper Carnegie Hill is considered to be one of Lower Manhattan's finest, residential neighborhoods. Here, are tree-lined streets that house many pre-war brownstones and mansions that are very high on architectural detail. There are many major museums (also known as Museum Mile), fine schools, and several religious institutions.

These homes are close to many modes of public transportation as well as Central Park. Some of these have 6-7 rooms and because this area is quiet, these seldom go on the market. Because of the many historic landmarks and museums that surround Upper Carnegie Hill, the likelihood of new real estate developments is rare. However, this is a family-friendly neighborhood with an excellent school district, so it may be worth the wait.

The infamous Museum Row goes through Upper Carnegie Hill, all the way to the end of Central Park. It includes the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Jewish Museum, Museum of the City of New York and the National Academy of Design. There is also the odd-shaped Guggenheim Museum that was designed by famed architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.

Other activities for families can be found at the 92nd Street Y, where there are classes, cultural events, and lectures for people of all ages.

For those who like to shop and dine, Madison Avenue is the place where an array of shops has designer items as well as gourmet food retailers. At Upper Carnegie Hill, there are a high concentration of places that sell high-end children's apparel. The great thing about these boutiques and restaurants is that they are only a few steps away from most residences.

As far as the nightlife goes in Upper Carnegie Hill, there is a small selection of places to choose from which to choose. The Auction House has no visible sign but a strict dress code. The Bar East Ale House is targeted to a younger crowd and has nice selection of beer. Though it gets crowded on the weekends, the live DJ's can make this the place to be. Tequila Jacks is also a nice bar to hang out with friends on the weekends.

Though homes in Upper Carnegie Hill are considered expensive by nationwide standards, a few rentals may be considered the exception. In the meantime, if a person just wanted to take a break from busy city life, this is a nice city to visit for a tranquil stroll.
