Description
Morningside Heights is a neighborhood that is known as Greater Harlem, Bloomingdale Village, or the "Academic Acropolis" for its many educational institutions such as Columbia University, Teachers College, the Manhattan School of Music, and Jewish Theological Seminary of America, just to name a few.

Some consider Morningside Heights part of the Upper West Side but the street boundaries say otherwise. Though Bloomingdale may occasionally stretch over, this area covers 125th Street to the north, St. Nicholas Avenue to the east, 110th Street to the south, and Riverside Drive to the west.

The spacious pre-war-properties on Riverside Drive have great views of the Hudson River. Morningside Heights also has condominiums with flowing layouts with generously sized rooms, and high ceilings.

Morningside Heights was once home to bodegas and small mom-and-pop stores but things have changed a great deal. Retailers that specialize in high-end apparel, gourmet foods, and restaurants along Broadway that are considered somewhat pricey have replaced these shops.

However, there are simpler options that cover the basics, like Duane Reade, that are priced for a student's budget. To get huge pizza slices at a great price, there is the Koronet Pizzeria or for something cheap and fast, try Ollie's Noodle Shop and Grille. There also holds a bit of TV nostalgia with the famous "Tom's" diner that was shown on the Seinfeld series and is still a tourist attraction today.

Morningside Heights also has many parks. These include Riverside, which offers bike and walking paths along the Hudson, Grant's Tomb, and Morningside Park. Morningside Park has 30 acres of rugged hills. There are also 50-foot high rock precipices, playgrounds, renovated ball courts and fields as well as lush picnic areas. Morningside Park also has a weekly farmers market that is held nine months out of the year. There is also a bird sanctuary and skate park.

Getting around Morningside Heights spans is fairly easy as there are trains and buses within a short walking distance. The Number 1 train stops along Broadway between 110th and 125th Streets. The A, B, C, and D lines stop along Manhattan Avenue. Eight bus lines that include three that runs across town.
