Description
The neighborhood area of Midtown West can be found from west Fifth Avenue to the West Side Highway and on up from 34th Street to the southern-most point of Central Park. The Midtown area is the main shopping, tourism, business and entertainment hub in NYC. As a result of the sheer number of things to see and do in the area, it's no surprise that a lot New Yorkers, besides the ones who live and work here, visit the area at least once a week.

Midtown West used to be quite rundown and nearly uninhabitable by decent folks, but all of that has changed in recent years and now the area is a haven for middle and upper class families. Clinton and Hell's Kitchen are the two main residential neighborhood areas that comprise Midtown West. You'll find a truly eclectic mix of people residing here including Yuppies, the last of the Westies, and immigrants from Central and South America and beyond. The truly unique thing about this area is that everyone seems to know each other and neighbors are more than just neighbors; they're friends.

Most of the buildings that you'll find in Midtown West are three to five story walk ups that tend to be a bit smaller and perhaps a bit less aesthetically pleasing than what you'd see on the Upper West Side or in Downtown. One good thing is that unless you're living right on Times Square, most likely your rent or mortgage will be lower than other prime neighborhoods and locations in the city.
Two of NYC's most notable attractions, the Rockefeller Center and the Times Square Theater District, are located in Midtown West. Also, you'll find two of the three most important transportation gateways in the city here; the Pennsylvania/LIRR stations and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Bus Terminal. This makes the area a prime tourist destination, as well since it is easy to get around in the area.

Manhattan's East Side may be more glitzy and glamorous, but Midtown West is hands-down the winner when it comes to energy and drive in the city.
