Description
While there are other parts of Lower Manhattan that offer artistic and cultural activities, Lincoln Square is on the home of Lincoln Center. This area is bound by Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues to the east and west, and West 63th and West 66rd Street to the north and south.

What many outsiders don't know is that Lincoln Square is not only the name of a New York neighborhood but also that of a square located near Columbus Avenue and Broadway in Manhattan.

Lincoln Center is the world's leading performing arts center as it has nearly five million visitors every year. It sits on about 16.3 acres of land and is home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Juilliard School, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, New York City Ballet, and New York Philharmonic, and many others.

Nearby is the Fordham University campus that adds to the diversity and creates a more vibrant community. For outdoor recreation, there is Damrosch Park, Dante Park as well as other community gardens that offer green spaces.

Lincoln Square offers residents and tourists some of the finest restaurants in Manhattan. Popular choices like Harry's Burritos and Café Fiorello are a short walk from Lincoln Center.

Shoppers also flock to Lincoln Square for its fine shops. Nearby is the Style Cabana, which has major retailers like Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, and The GAP stores.

The Subway lines 1, 2 stop at Lincoln Square and lines A, B, C, and D service nearby areas. Many of the area attractions are walking distance of the subway station.

Housing in the Lincoln Square section of Manhattan is mostly high-rise condominiums and co-op apartments, but there are also less expensive accommodations available.

In 1996, the Lincoln Square Business Improvement District, also known as BID, was formed and funded by local businesses. Their mission was to provide security staff that would patrol the street and prevent minor crimes. They also represent the community of Lincoln Square by providing assistance and giving information to residents and tourists. The BID also provides cleaning crews as well as plants trees and flowers along the roads and sidewalks.
