Description
Located in the northwest part of Brooklyn, Fort Greene is a diverse neighborhood that has a few nice surprises. For one, it boasts mid-19th century architecture that is wonderfully restored. Tree-lined streets complement these buildings and it is so picturesque that many movie studios have filmed the homes and mansions as a backdrop on many projects.

Fort Greene is bound by Wallabout/Myrtle Avenue to the north, Washington Avenue to the east, Atlantic Avenue to the south, and Flatbush Avenue to the west.

While fantastic homes are one reason that people are flocking to Fort Greene, there is also diversity as there are working-class neighbors of various backgrounds that appreciate the tranquil streets and laid-back atmosphere.

There is shopping at the Atlantic Terminal Mall where chain retailers like Best Buy, Old Navy and others are housed, along with many fine restaurants. On Saturdays, the Fort Greene Greenmarket, an open-air farmers market, has live music by local bands, demonstrations, and many activities that the entire family will enjoy. They also have textile recycling and compost collection.

Fort Greene is also the flagship location of the Flea, an open-air market that specializes in antique goods, eclectic items, and it is a foodies paradise. From April to November, the Loughlin Memorial High School's main yard is transformed into a shopping experience and hangout for hipsters and food truck lovers. They have also received numerous awards for their efforts in leadership and creativity from many respected organizations.

There are also plenty of restaurants to enjoy throughout the week. The famous Junior's is not far and is well known for their delicious cheesecakes. For those seeking southern cuisine, there is the Blue Moon Café on Fulton Street. Fort Greene is also home to Abistro, which serves French dishes that are also vegan-friendly. There is also the Zagat favorite, 67 Burger, which has a wide variety of burgers and other fun foods.

Getting around Fort Greene is easy as there are many subway lines and trains.
